Overview
Mathesar is an open source software project to help users store, organise, visualise, and collaborate on data. Mathesar's goal is to provide an intuitive user experience for non-technical users. Mathesar directly operates on PostgreSQL databases, which gives it the flexibility to be interoperable with thousands of other existing tools and applications.
Problem statement
Mathesar needed a design spec for importing tables to the schemas (Database) using a local file. Mathesar already has a UX for that but they wanted to revamp it since it did not make sense to them. Taking the older UI as a base, I had to identify problem and propose a better user experience in the form of a design spec.
Open source design
I work as a UX design contributor with Mathesar. I get to work on different issues that the core team lays out. Open source design is bit challenging since design is all about collaboration and open source promotes more individual contribution than frequent collaborations. The collaboration is a bit slow and every thing needs to be documented by that somehow teaches me a lot of discipline and attention to detail.
